Although Maryland is a small state, there are 4,000 acres worth of huntable land. Maryland also has the largest harvested buck on record on the East Coast. Hunting in wildlands is also allowed. The state owns Wildlands and has the characteristics of the wilderness because of its rare species.

2. Deer Population

If you love to hunt for deer specifically, you will undoubtedly leave home with a prize. Maryland is home to the Sika deer, a unique deer only found in Maryland and Eastern Asia. The Sika deer origin is from an island in southern Japan. You may find this unique specimen in quiet marshes and forested wetlands on the lower shore of Maryland. The second type of deer in Maryland is the White-tailed deer. Currently, the deer herd of the white-tailed is estimated to be over 200,000! Male White-tailed weighs just over 100 lbs, whereas females weigh 90 lbs.

When hunting in a different state, there is the potential of needing a license or permits. Luckily, Maryland has a DNR app that you can download on your phone or online. Residents and non-residents can utilize the app. The process is quick and easy, so you can get out there to find your prize! Different types of licenses can be purchased, such as regular, junior, senior, and non-resident.

4. Bag Limit

The bag limit in Maryland is more lenient compared to other states. For the hunting season combined, a two-buck or antlered deer bag limit is in place. One deer per weapon season is allowed and for antlerless deer, the bag limit is unlimited!
